Tanzania is one of the most unique destination on the African continent, but is quite unknown. The richness of its wildlife is exceptional. The famous Mont Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the continent, and its roof is permanently snow-capped. A lot of hikes are organized by local companies that offer different types of vacations, whether you are athletic or not, and for very different lengths of time. Wildlife is offering a unique scenery, especially for those who love photography. Tanzania has the most beautiful safaris of the continent. But that’s not it, the industry of tourism, that is growing pretty fast, is making sure to develop a sustainable quality tourism that is ecologically friendly, and that respects the environment as it is.
And for those who would rather relax than hike, a simple and short cross over the Indian Ocean, and you’re landing on the paradise on earth : Zanzibar, with its dream beaches, and its coral reefs. You literally have the best of both worlds here. For my money there is no better trip any where in the world.
Many people have told me they would go here or there given the chance, but I am well travelled and can tell you that few places surpass the cultural glory or beautiful landscape available to visitors here. Should you wish to experience a once in a lifetime trip, take my advise, see what the world is like in Tanzania. You won’t ever regret it.
Update: 2020
Info from tz.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/
- The Department of State’s current travel advisory level for Tanzania is Level 3 – Reconsider Travel.
- The Tanzanian government has not released aggregate numbers on COVID-19 cases or deaths since April 29. Consequently, we are unable to provide specific guidance for U.S. citizens in Tanzania.
- Given the presumed ongoing community transmission in Dar es Salaam and other locations in Tanzania, the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains high. The Embassy has recommended that U.S. government personnel and their families reduce movement outside of their home except for essential activities and limit the number of visitors entering their home.
- Healthcare facilities in Tanzania can become quickly overwhelmed in a healthcare crisis. There have been instances during the COVID-19 outbreak when hospitals in Dar es Salaam reached full capacity due to the high volume COVID-19 cases. Limited hospital capacity throughout Tanzania could result in life-threatening delays for emergency medical care.
Like many people, my plans for travel in 2020 were totally disrupted due to the Covid 19 pandemic. My plane tickets were changed to point, my hotel and cart reservations were cancelled when it became obvious this pandemic would be raging across the US and world for awhile. Then when the second surges began, all hopes for safe travel were quashed. Now with the Covid 19 vaccines beginning to be administered I am looking more hopeful for 2021. Meanwhile I stay mainly at home, here in Las Vegas venturing out to the grocery store for food or getting takeout meals at the restaurants that are still partially open and going for hikes in the back country where I encounter almost no one. I visit a few friends, standing outside at the proper social distance while wearing masks. My water delivery in Las Vegas service leaves my bottled water on the door step after ringing the door bell to alert me to their delivery. They offer spring water sourced from deep in the High Sierra Mountains, fresh drinking water that is purified through an exhaustive seven-stage process, and high-quality alkaline water with PH 9.5. I don’t drink anything else. I love their water so much, I would bring their 5-gallon containers with me when I travel if it were feasible!
Can’t wait till much of the world population is vaccinated with one of the various vaccines that are now being rolled out and life can go back to normal. I am so looking forward to returning to Zanzibar.
